Western Uganda Gorilla and Wildlife Budget Safari highlights include visiting Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, game drives in Murchison Falls National Park, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park, and wildlife safari game drives at Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will also do gorilla trekking at Bwindi National Park.

Itinerary

In the morning, we will pick you up from Best Western Premier Entebbe and transfer you from Kampala to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Rhinos got extinct in Uganda in the early 1980s, and the Ziwa site is being used as a breeding site for the black and white rhino. We will then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park where we will have dinner and overnight.

In the morning, you will go for a game drive in the park to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and other wildlife. In the afternoon, you will take a relaxing boat trip on the River Nile where you will have a chance to see crocodiles, hippos, and a range of rare birds. You will also see the point where the River Nile joins Lake Albert, one of the major highlights of this trip. At the end of the boat trip, you will hike the famous "top of the falls" where you have spectacular views of the Murchison Falls along the Nile River. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge.

After an early breakfast, we will depart from Murchison Falls National Park and drive southwards to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive to Kibale will go through the major western towns of Hoima, Kyenjojo, and Fort Portal. Arrival at Kibale Forest National Park is expected in the early evening. The driving time is estimated at 6 hours. A visit to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is also scheduled.

Starting in the morning at Kibale Forest National Park, you will go into the jungle to encounter chimpanzees and different monkeys like the red-tailed monkey, olive baboon, and black-and-white colobus monkey. After the chimp trekking, drive for 3 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park for dinner and overnight.

You will start the day with an early breakfast at the lodge. Afterward, we proceed to the famed Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park to spot various species of wild animals. The Kasenyi Plains dwell in the vast savannahs of the Albertine Rift in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It will be a morning full of adventure! Expect to encounter lions, herds of buffalos, elephants, Uganda kobs, topis, and bushbucks. While spotting the "Big Five" in the park is not guaranteed, on a lucky day, you may see leopards to make it to the "Big Four." We will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, join the Kazinga Channel boat cruise for an afternoon of wild game viewing. You will spot crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and bird species on the channel waters.

On the way to Bwindi National Park, we will drive through the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, popularly known for its tree-climbing lions. Unlike their counterparts at the Kasenyi Plains, the lions at Ishasha have found a way to climb the fig trees to enjoy the warmer temperatures in the park. While the sighting of the tree-climbing lions is not 100% guaranteed, a stopover at Ishasha is worth a visit!

You will head to the Bwindi National Park gate immediately after breakfast for a briefing about the gorilla trek. The national park guide will conduct the presentation covering the basics of what to expect during the gorilla trek. The national guide will assign the gorilla trekking group during the pre-trekking briefing. Other visitors will likely join you. The gorilla trek can take from a few to many hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest. After the gorilla trek, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

This trip will take you to trek the golden monkeys, an endemic species of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Southwestern Uganda. You will enter the forest and walk through the bamboo vegetation and the various indigenous plants like giant lobelia. Your national park guide will tell you about the park's history and the fauna and flora that the park holds during the trip. The golden monkey trek should take about 5 hours. After the golden monkey trekking, drive for about 3 hours to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and overnight.

On this day, transfer from Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo National Park for additional activities. During the drive to Lake Mburo National Park, there will be a lunch stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara city. After lunch, we will proceed to Lake Mburo National Park and check in at the lodge. In the evening, a night game drive is planned at Lake Mburo National Park, with an opportunity to spot the famous leopards of Lake Mburo.

Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Mburo National Park.

This will be the last day of the 10-Day Western Uganda Wildlife Safari. The day will start with an early-morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park to spot additional wildlife, including giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, topis, and impalas. We will then travel from Lake Mburo National Park to Entebbe International Airport from where you will continue to the next destination. We will stop at the equator crossing for coffee and handicraft shopping.
